The Rangers-Yankees series over the weekend was interesting, to see how the young Texas pitching held its own against a good lineup, and Philadelphia showed something earlier in the month against the Braves. But it feels like we are about to see the first big series of the season tonight, when the Rockies play host to the Giants, because it involves the defending champs and a team that might be good enough to take that distinction away from San Francisco -- plus all the humidor history.

As it begins, Rockies reliever Matt Belisle will be sitting out in the open air of the expansive home bullpen in Coors Field, taking in the air, getting accustomed to the elements he could pitch in; this is part of how he gets ready for the game. Sometimes he is alone, with the other Colorado relievers seated elsewhere, each of them preparing in his own way.
