The 11th-ranked skater on the Central Scouting Service's European list is a Swiss center whose performance at the World Juniors in Buffalo I liked a lot. I thought Gregory Hofmann had a couple of games in that tournament where his play outstripped that of his left winger Sven Baertschi, which is saying something considering Baertschi is almost certainly a top-15 pick overall and maybe a top-10.

Hofmann's play in Buffalo caused his stock to pop, shooting him up eight slots from No. 19 in the midterms. In doing so he surpassed a player, Victor Rask, who was considered to be the best forward in Europe entering the season. Hofmann looked to be trending, perhaps even rocketing, up.

It just ain't so, I regret to say.
