Box Score Bits: Dickey, Garcia look sharp
New York Mets right-hander R.A. Dickey allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings Monday, winning for the first time in July. Dickey has deserved better; his July peripherals (3.65 ERA, 1.15 WHIP) have been helpful, and the knuckleballer is on pace for 149 strikeouts. He's available in 95 percent of leagues.
Similarly, New York Yankees right-hander Freddy Garcia seems a tad underrated; he won his ninth game Monday, allowing three runs over 7 2/3 innings and lowered his season ERA to 3.23. Sure, he beat the struggling Seattle Mariners, but in his last outing he held the Tampa Bay Rays scoreless. Garcia doesn't thrive in strikeouts or WHIP, but he's winning games.
Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones was activated from the disabled list Monday and hit his ninth home run before leaving with a quad injury. He also singled and stole his second base of the season. Jones isn't a fantasy star anymore, but with third base being scarce for fantasy options, he's a borderline own in standard leagues.
