Appel and Roache show first-round talent
SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass. -- As the Cape Cod League season progresses, some of the top players have really started to distinguish themselves. Two players who have really stood out are Stanford right-hander Mark Appel and George Southern outfielder Victor Roache. They are both definite potential first-round picks next year who have attracted quite a following during their time on the Cape.
The 6-foot-6 Appel is pitching for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox and sppent some time with Team USA earlier this summer. After throwing more than 100 innings for Stanford this spring, one would assume that the lanky sophomore would be a little fatigued, but he still managed to sit 93-97 mph in six shutout innings in his first start against Orleans.
