Adams dealt; Bell, Feliz stay as closers
Earlier Sunday, San Diego Padres closer Heath Bell tweeted to the world: "No matter what happens today, I still play for the big man upstairs. Thank you Lord for the many blessings that you have given." Well, one of the blessings bestowed upon fantasy owners later Sunday was that Bell was not traded before the MLB non-waiver trade deadline. His setup man, Mike Adams, on the other hand, was dealt to the Texas Rangers for a few prospects. It's surprising that Bell stayed put, but fantasy owners are winners here because he'll keep on closing.
As for Adams, owners who preemptively added him this week (he was the eighth-most added pitcher in ESPN standard leagues) are probably out of luck. Oh, he's likely to still pitch well, and this is a very good pitcher, but the Rangers have a "closer" and no matter how average he has been in 2011, that's not likely to change the mind of manager Ron Washington. Heck, even had Bell been sent to Texas, it's likely he wouldn't have closed.
