Analyzing Klinsmann's coaching picks
Jurgen Klinsmann's first match as head coach of the U.S. national team will take place next Wednesday against Mexico (9 p.m. ET, ESPN2). And although most will focus on the roster that Jurgen Klinsmann has selected for his first match, his choice of assistants -- Tab Ramos, Martin Vasquez and Thomas Dooley -- is every bit as intriguing.
Although Klinsmann insists that he's in no rush to settle on a full-time staff -- choosing instead to try out candidates over the coming months -- he also says that Latin influence "has to be reflected in the U.S. national team." The German legend immediately backed up those words by selecting Mexican-leaguers Jose Torres, Michael Orozco Fiscal and Edgar Castillo to his 22-man squad on Thursday. At the same time, he quietly made Vasquez and Ramos, along with the German-born Dooley, frontrunners for permanent jobs.
