London Knights forward Andreas Athanasiou turned plenty of heads last month with this audacious shootout goal at the NHL's Research and Development camp in Etobicoke, Ontario. But if it wasn't for a chance encounter two winters ago, the projected first-round pick in next June's draft might not have been spotted at all.

"It's funny how it happened," says Knights scout Dave Warren, who had only poked his head into a local rink during a Midget tournament during the 2009-10 season when he ran into an old friend watching his nephew play for the Toronto Titans. Naturally, the two men began catching up.

"No sooner had I sat down, and this kid takes off with the puck like a rocket," Warren says. "He beats two guys wide, hooks off and passes to a teammate crashing the net. I was like, 'who's that?'"
