Rangers targeting high-end scorers

While the New York Rangers were in the middle of their grueling playoff run, shot-blocking their way to wins, one former player observed the method of winning and suggested this had to be New York's year. If they didn't win it all now, he suggested, it would be a nearly impossible effort to duplicate next season.

New York was the most consistent team from start to finish, grinding out win after win as John Tortorella pushed his players beyond any personal limits they might have set for themselves. It's not an easy way with which to win games.

Next season they start it over, and there's plenty of speculation that they will try to make things a little bit easier by targeting another big scorer to go with Marian Gaborik, whose 41 goals were 12 more than the next Ranger, making Gaborik one of only three Rangers to exceed 20 goals this season.

The fact that Gaborik could be out for six months while recovering from rotator-cuff surgery makes the need to add a goal-scorer that much more urgent.
