Top prospects coming out flat
A draft class that didn't look that good a month ago doesn't look any better now that the season has started, with more top prospects starting out slowly than there are new names popping up. Here are some quick notes on guys I've seen thus far.
• The University of Florida suffered a big blow when their Saturday starter, Karsten Whitson, was scratched for the season after a shoulder operation. The Gators' Friday starter, Jonathon Crawford, wasn't his usual self this weekend against Florida Gulf Coast, working from 89-92 all night with an above-average slider that he went to more and more as it became clear that his fastball wasn't there for him.
