SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt is still only 24 years old, though it seems like baseball fans and fantasy owners have been talking about him for years, waiting for big things. Belt showed flashes of success in 2012 but left many wondering what the hype was all about. This is a first baseman who played in 145 big league games (in 2012) yet delivered only seven home runs, and that just won't cut it.

Belt is off to a fine start this spring, with a pair of home runs and 10 hits in his first 19 at-bats, plus a stolen base. Sure, we preach that spring training numbers don't mean much, but this is a young player with a lot to prove, mainly that he deserves to be out there playing every game. After talking to Belt on Sunday afternoon before the Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3 at Scottsdale Stadium, it seems as if Belt is fully aware bigger things are expected from him.
