PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kemba Walker, Connecticut
The guard from out of Rice HS in New York City put on a show against Vermont, scoring 42 points for the Huskies. This game was not a cakewalk as UConn. needed the strong showing by Walker.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Minnesota
The Golden Gophers of coach Tubby Smith made some noise by winning the championship of the tournament down in Puerto Rico. Minnesota upset North Carolina in the semifinals and knocked off a tough West Virginia squad in the title game.
CO-COACH OF THE WEEK: Rick Pitino, Louisville and Steve Fisher, San Diego State
The Cardinals have a young, inexperienced team. Louisville still christened Pitino's Palace, the beautiful Yum Center with a win over national finalist Butler. Give Pitino a lot of credit for the big win.
The Aztecs scored a huge win at Gonzaga as part of the 24-hour marathon. Then San Diego State came back from a 22-point deficit to beat Green Bay. On Sunday, Fisher's team rallied from a three-point halftime deficit to beat IUPUI by 15.
DIAPER DANDY OF THE WEEK: Jared Sullinger, Ohio State
While Harrison Barnes has received lots of hype, keep an eye on the Buckeyes big man. He dominated against a highly-tanked Florida team, He hit 13-of-17 from the field, scoring 26 points while grabbing 10 boards against the Gators. He also helped in a win over UNC-Wilmington.
SHOCK OF THE WEEK: Kennesaw State over Georgia Tech
It is one thing for the Yellow Jackets to lose, but the 80-63 margin was stunning. A team with Iman Shumpert, Glen Rice Jr. and company was blown out, baby! I understand Tech lost Derrick Favors, Gani Lawal and a lot of talent, but this score is hard to believe.
