Purvis makes NC State ACC favs
There was great news for the fans out of Raleigh, North Carolina.
North Carolina State got the word that diaper dandy Rodney Purvis has been declared eligible. Purvis has been granted permission to compete immediately for the Wolfpack in a decision handed down by the NCAA Committee on Initial Eligibility Waivers. Purvis would have been forced to sit out the entire season without this ruling.
One has to wonder why it took so long for the NCAA to come up with this decision. It took 44 days before the ruling, with the process starting in early August and costing the young man a trip with his teammates on a foreign trip. That could have helped him learn about his teammates and work on the NC State chemistry. Why leave him hanging, waiting to determine his status?
It was not fair to make him wait, but now he is ready to go. He can flat-out play and coach Mark Gottfried has to be excited to have him. Gottfried has the program going in the right direction.
When you look at the make-up of this Wolfpack club, with Purvis and C.J. Leslie, they are the favorite to win the ACC. That does not happen very often when you have Duke and North Carolina in the league. It will not be cupcake city for the Wolfpack.
Purvis will be an instant impact diaper dandy. The 6-3 shooting guard, a McDonald's All-American, averaged over 26 points per game in high school last season. He was a highly-sought prospect. Purvis joins a class that includes point guard Tyler Lewis and forward T.J. Warren, which should excite the fans at the RBC.
It has been good times for Gottfried, who signed guard Anthony Barber for the future. He is a top 10 prospect with potential, potential, potential. Barber, nicknamed Cat, is from Hampton, Virginia. He plays on the AAU circuit with the legendary coach Boo Williams program.
There is reason for joy down in Wolfpack country.
