NEWTON LEADS PANTHERS TO 48 POINTS

From Elias: Cam Newton threw three touchdown passes and ran for another in the Panthers' 48-16 win over the Buccaneers on Saturday. That's the most points scored by a team that started a rookie quarterback since the Rams, with Tony Banks starting, defeated the Falcons on Nov. 10, 1996, 59-16.

Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

YES, I CAM

From Elias: Cam Newton has had a TD run and pass in the same game eight times this season, including Saturday, tying an NFL single-season record. Steve Grogan had eight such games in 1976 and Daunte Culpepper had eight in 2002.

Brady

BRADY HAS HIS WAY WITH DOLPHINS

From Elias: Tom Brady threw for 304 yards against the Dolphins on Saturday after he had 517 against Miami in the Patriots' season opener. His total of 821 against the Dolphins this season is the fourth-most by any player against one team in one season in NFL history. Joe Montana had 874 against the Falcons in 1990, Dan Marino had 874 against the Jets in 1988 and Neil Lomax had 829 against the Redskins in 1984.

Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots

STAFFORD SETS A TEAM RECORD

From Elias: Matthew Stafford completed 29 of 36 passes for 373 yards in the Lions win over the Chargers on Saturday. He's the first player in Lions' history to complete more than 80 percent of his passes while throwing for at least 300 yards.

Detroit Lions, San Diego Chargers

ALMOST FIRST SHUTOUT FOR REID

From Elias: The Cowboys' touchdown with seven seconds to play spoiled the Eagles' bid to give Andy Reid his first career shutout. Reid has been a head coach for by far the most games (today was #207) among men who never had a shutout. Next-most is 112, by Dan Henning.

Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles

Manning

MANNING AND CRUZ LEAD GIANTS TO WIN

From Elias: Thanks to a 99-yard touchdown pass to Victor Cruz, Eli Manning finished Saturday with 225 passing yards on only nine completions. That's the most yards in one game by a Giants QB who had fewer than 10 completions since Fran Tarkenton had nine completions for 264 yards against the Redskins on Sept. 29, 1968.

New York Giants

Sanchez

AN INEFFICIENT DAY FOR SANCHEZ

From Elias: Mark Sanchez threw 59 passes on Saturday but gained only 258 yards on those throws (4.4 average). Only one other player in NFL history has thrown that many passes with such a low average of yards per pass in one game: Chris Weinke had a 63-pass, 223-yard game in 2001 (3.5 per throw).

New York Jets

RAVENS GO UNDEFEATED AT HOME

From Elias: The Ravens finished off their first undefeated home season with a 20-14 win over the Browns on Saturday. Their predecessors in Baltimore, the Colts, had only one perfect season at home in 31 seasons in Maryland, when they went 6-0 in 1958, en route to the NFL title. (The Colts were undefeated at home in 1967, with one tie.)

Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns

Cook

THE COOK DID IT

From Elias: Jared Cook had eight catches for 169 yards on Saturday, an average of 21.1 per catch. Since the 1970 merger only one tight end has had a higher average in a game of eight or more catches. That was Shannon Sharpe, who had eight catches for 174 yards (21.8 per catch) for Denver on Nov. 9, 1997.

Tennessee Titans

RAIDERS WIN 5TH STRAIGHT IN KANSAS CITY

From Elias: The Raiders' win in Kansas City was their fifth straight road win against the Chiefs and their seventh consecutive road win in a game against a division opponent. It's the Raiders' longest road winning streak against a division opponent since taking five straight in Seattle from 1990 through 1994. The only other team to win five straight games in Kansas City is the Steelers, who had a seven-game winning streak spanning 23 seasons (1974 to 1996). Oakland's seven straight road wins against division opponents is its longest streak since the 1970 merger.

Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs

RAMS BLANKED IN PITTSBURGH

From Elias: The Rams were shut out in Pittsburgh in their final road game of the season, leaving St. Louis with a total of four road touchdowns this season. Only one other NFL team since 1930 has played eight road games in a season and scored fewer than five touchdowns in those games: the Bengals scored three TDs in their eight road games in 2000.

Pittsburgh Steelers, St. Louis Rams

Lynch

49ERS FINALLY ALLOW A TD RUN

From Elias: Marshawn Lynch's touchdown run on Saturday ended the 49ers' streak of 15 straight games without allowing a rushing TD. That was the longest such streak in team history and it was the longest for any NFL team since Mike Ditka's Bears had a 15-game streak in 1986 and 1987.

San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks

BENGALS RUN FOR 100+ AGAIN

From Elias: The Bengals ran for 165 yards against the Cardinals on Saturday, extending their streak to eight straight games with 100-plus rushing yards. That's Cincinnati's longest streak of games with at least 100 rushing yards since James Brooks and company had an eight-game streak in 1990.

Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals

null
McKelvin

BILLS TIE TEAM RECORD

From Elias: The Bills tied a team record with three return touchdowns on Saturday - a punt runback by Leodis McKelvin and interception returns by Jairus Byrd and Spencer Johnson. Buffalo's previous games with three return touchdowns were in 1968 against the Jets and 2007 against the Cowboys.

Buffalo Bills

null
Gerhart

SEND IT IN TO THE ALUMNI MAGAZINE

From Elias: Toby Gerhart's 67-yard run on Saturday was the third-longest in NFL history by a player who came to the league from Stanford. James Lofton had an 83-yard run in 1982 and Darrin Nelson had a 72-yarder, also for Minnesota, in 1987.

Minnesota Vikings

NFC FINALLY WINS A SEASON SERIES

From Elias: The NFC had a 33-31 edge in interconference play this season. It was the first time since 1995 that the NFC won the season series from the AFC (33-27). The conferences split the season series in 2000, 2001 and 2007.
