THREE TD PASSES IN THREE STRAIGHT GAMES FOR FREEMAN
From Elias: Josh Freeman has thrown three touchdown passes in each of his last three games. The only other Bucs quarterback to throw at least three TD passes in three consecutive games was Vinny Testaverde in 1989. Freeman has done it in three straight team games while Testaverde missed a game during his streak.
BIG FIRST HALF AND GAME FOR MARTIN
From Elias: Doug Martin ran for 106 yards in the first half in the Buccaneers victory over the Vikings. It was the most rushing yards in the first half for a Tampa Bay player since Warrick Dunn had 113 against the Cowboys on December 3, 2000.
Martin finished the game with 135 yards rushing and 79 yards receiving. He is just the second rookie over the last 25 seasons with at least 130 rushing yards and 75 receiving yards in a game. Clinton Portis did it for the Broncos on December 15, 2002 (130 rushing yards, 75 receiving yards).
BUCS PUTTING UP THE POINTS
From Elias: The Buccaneers have scored at least 28 points in each of their last three games: a 38-10 win over the Chiefs, a 35-28 loss to the Saints and a 36-17 victory over the Vikings. That matches the longest such streak in franchise history. The Bucs scored at least 28 points in three consecutive games in 2003: a 31-10 win over the Falcons, a 38-35 loss to the Colts and a 35-13 win over the Redskins.
BUMGARNER AND MATHEWSON
From Elias: Madison Bumgarner did not allow a run in eight innings pitched in his first career World Series start (Game 4 of the 2010 Fall Classic against the Rangers) and he did not allow a run in seven innings in Game 2 of the 2012 World Series. Bumgarner is only the second pitcher in major-league history not to allow a run in each of his first two Fall Classic starts. Christy Mathewson pitched a shutout in each of his first three World Series starts, all against the Athletics in 1905 (Games 1, 3 and 5).
Bumgarner is the first pitcher not to allow a run in his first 15 career innings pitched in the World Series since Bruce Hurst in 1986. Hurst also did not allow a run in his first 15 Fall Classic innings.
SOUTHPAWS SHINE ON THE LEFT COAST
From Elias: Madison Bumgarner joined Barry Zito as the first pair of left-handed pitching teammates to start and win the first two games of a World Series since Ron Guidry and Tommy John did it for the Yankees in 1981 (New York's only wins in its Series loss to the Dodgers).
NOT MUCH ACTION THROUGH SIX INNINGS
From Elias: The Giants and Tigers combined for no runs, four hits and 11 strikeouts through six innings of Game 2 of the 2012 World Series. It was only the fourth time in World Series history in which both teams combined had not scored a run with five or fewer hits and at least 10 strikeouts in the first six innings of a game. It also happened in the first game of the 1949 World Series between the Dodgers and Yankees, Game 3 of the 1972 series between the Reds and Athletics and Game 5 of the 2010 Fall Classic between the Giants and Rangers.
