Belinelli wins three-point contest
Marco Belinelli won the 2014 Foot Locker Three-Point Contest Saturday night. Belinelli, in his first season with the Spurs, is 81-for-181 (.448) from three-point range this season, and 226-for-449 (.503) on all field goals. The only other players to shoot 40% from downtown and 50% overall (minimum 80 three-pointers made) before the All-Star break in their first season with a team are Danny Ainge (1992-93 Suns) and Dale Ellis (1992-93 Spurs).
Bonifacio brings bona fide speed to Chicago
Emilio Bonifacio signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs Saturday. Bonifacio has stolen 98 bases over the last three seasons, sixth-most in the majors since 2011, behind Michael Bourn (126), Rajai Davis (125), Coco Crisp (109), Jacoby Ellsbury (105), and Elvis Andrus (100). Bonifacio swiped 16 bags for the Royals after arriving in from Toronto in a trade last August 14, tying Alex Rios and Jarrod Dyson for the second-highest total in the majors over that span behind Eric Young Jr. (23).
Smoak agrees to new deal
Justin Smoak avoided arbitration by signing a contract with the Mariners. Smoak has hit 15, 19, and 20 home runs, all as a first baseman, in his three full seasons with Seattle. The only other M's first basemen to hit 15+ homers in three consecutive years are Alvin Davis (1987-1989), Tino Martinez (1993-1995), and Richie Sexson (2005-2007).
Oshie is shootout hero for USA
T.J. Oshie scored four times in six attempts in the shootout of the United States' Olympic victory over Russia. Oshie's career percentage of .543 (25-for-46) in NHL shootouts is the third-highest among players with at least 20 attempts, behind Slava Kozlov (27-for-46, .587) and Frans Nielsen (30-for-55, .545).
Bobrovsky gives up four in shootout
Sergei Bobrovsky, Russia's goaltender, allowed four shootout goals in eight attempts in defeat. Bobrovsky has never let more than two pucks go in the net in any of his 20 NHL shootouts for the Flyers and Blue Jackets.
