A daily glance inside the numbers from the world of sports:

" The Pistons defeated the Bulls in Game 1 of their series 95-69. It's the 54th time that a team won Game 1 of an NBA postseason series by at least 25 points. The team winning Game 1 by such a large margin went on to win the series 46 of the previous 53 times (87 percent).

The Bulls became the fifth team in the shot-clock era (since the 1954-55 season) to score fewer than 70 points in Game 1 of a postseason series.

" The home team won the first six games of the Jazz-Rockets series, the 21st time in NBA history that happened. However, the Jazz are only the third team to buck the trend in Game 7. The other road teams in win a Game 7 after the home team had won each of the first six games: the Celtics over the Lakers in the 1969 Finals, and the Baltimore Bullets against the Knicks in the 1971 Eastern Conference finals.

" Carlos Boozer had 35 points and 14 rebounds in the Jazz's win in Houston. Only two players had that many points and rebounds in a non-overtime, winner-take-all game on the road (Game 7 in a best-of-seven; Game 5 in a best-of-five, etc.). Both of those players did it in a losing effort: Patrick Ewing (37 points, 17 rebounds) in the Knicks' Game 7 loss to the Heat in Miami in 1997, and Dolph Schayes (35 points, 16 rebounds) in the Syracuse Nationals' Game 7 loss to the Celtics in Boston in 1959.

" Tracy McGrady had 29 points and 13 assists in the Rockets' loss. Only one other player has had that many points and assists in a winner-take-all loss: John Stockton had 29 points and 20 assists in the Jazz's Game 7 loss to the Lakers in 1988.

" The Cardinals lost to the Astros at Busch Stadium on Saturday 13-0. That was the worst home shutout loss for a reigning World Series champion since the White Sox beat the Yankees 15-0 in the Bronx on May 4, 1950.

" Chien-Ming Wang took a perfect game into the eighth inning Saturday, after Phil Hughes had a no-hitter in the seventh inning in Texas on Tuesday. They are the first teammates to take no-hitters into the seventh inning within five days of each other since Rich Harden and Barry Zito did it on consecutive days for the Athletics in July 2005. The last Yankees teammates to do it were Bob Wickman and Jim Abbott in May 1993.

" The last time a perfect game ended in the seventh inning or later on a home run was April 20, 1990. On that day, the Athletics' Ken Phelps hit a pinch-hit home run off the Mariners' Brian Holman with two outs in the ninth inning to end the perfect game, no-hitter and shutout.

" Jeff Weaver lost to the Yankees on Saturday, and he's now 0-5 with a 15.35 ERA this season. Opponents are hitting .465 against him. Weaver is the first player to lose his first five appearances of a season while posting an ERA of 13 or higher.

" Barry Bonds' home run moved him past Stan Musial into fourth place on the all-time RBIs list. Musial had been in the top four in career RBIs for almost 45 years, since July 25, 1962, when he moved past Mel Ott into fourth place on the all-time list.

" Jon Lieber, who allowed his fifth home run to Bonds on Saturday, is one of 18 pitchers against whom Bonds has at least five homers. Five pitchers are tied atop that list with eight homers allowed: Greg Maddux, Terry Mulholland, Chan Ho Park, Curt Schilling and John Smoltz.

" With a 6-2 win Saturday, the Mets have won their past 13 games in Arizona, the longest road winning streak by one team against another since the Braves won 14 in a row in Houston in 1991-92. The Mets have outscored the Diamondbacks 104-29 in those 13 games.

" Jeff Suppan won his fifth consecutive start Saturday, improving his record to 5-2. That's the most wins by a pitcher who switched teams in the offseason. The pitcher with the next most is another former Cardinals player: Jason Marquis (4-1).

" Johan Santana had a five-inning win Saturday against the Red Sox. Santana has 59 wins since the start of the 2004 season, tying him with Roy Oswalt for the most in the major leagues over that time, but he's pitched the minimum amount of innings in only four of those wins.

" The Devil Rays' win over the Athletics on Saturday was already their third this season in which they were trailing in the ninth inning or later. That ties them for the most such wins in the major leagues this season (with the Tigers, Mets and A's), and it matches Tampa Bay's total of those wins in the entire 2006 season.

" The Cubs' 5-3 win over the Nationals dropped Washington to 9-21 on the season with a negative-66 run differential. In the past 30 seasons (since 1978), only two other National League teams have won as few as nine of their first 30 games while being outscored by that many runs: the 1988 Braves (9-21, -67) and the 1997 Reds (9-21, -73).

" The Senators bounced the Devils out of the playoffs Saturday with a 3-2 win, Ottawa's third one-goal win of the series. In the Martin Brodeur era in New Jersey, only two other teams have won three one-goal games against the Devils in one series: the Senators in 1998 and Hurricanes in 2002 (who won four one-goal games against Brodeur).

" The Red Wings have not allowed more than two goals in any of their past seven games (Games 5 and 6 against the Flames and all five games of the series against the Sharks). It's the Red Wings' longest such streak in the playoffs since 1995, when they held their opponents to two or fewer goals in each of seven consecutive games.

" Real Salt Lake "won" a tie against the Red Bulls by scoring in the 90th and 91st minutes to erase New York's 3-1 lead. There were only two games last season in which a team scored twice in the 90th minute or later to tie or win. Jeff Cunningham, who scored Real's first goal Saturday, scored late twice against D.C. United on July 29, to give Real a 2-1 win; and the Revolution scored twice in stoppage time to salvage a 3-3 tie against the Fire on June 11.

Bruce Arena's teams had won 34 of 36 previous regular-season MLS games in which they had a two-goal lead, all seven postseason games that they led by two goals, and the U.S. National Team won all 50 games under Arena in which it had a two-goal lead.

" Jose Burciaga Jr.'s stoppage-time goal gave the Wizards a 1-0 win over the Crew. Since the start of the 2006 season, Burciaga has scored nine goals, including eight in games in which he was a starting defender (the other goal was in a game Burciaga started in midfield). That's the most goals as a starting defender since the start of last season.

" The Wizards are 4-1-0 under first-time coach Curt Onalfo. Only two other MLS coaches garnered as many as 12 points from their first five games: Lothar Osiander had 15 points for the 1996 Galaxy and Ivo Wortmann had 12 for the 1998 Fusion.
