Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin may be watching like everyone else as the Steelers and Packers prepare to play a Super Bowl in his home stadium, but he got a bit of surprising news this week.
According to CNBC's Darren Rovell, Austin's jersey was No. 7 on the list of the best-selling NFL jerseys for women, finishing just ahead of teammates Tony Romo (No. 9) and Jason Witten (No. 10).
Austin broke down the list for Page 2 on a visit to ESPN, where he was discussing Papa John's promotion to give a free large pizza to everyone in America who registers if Super Bowl XLV goes into overtime.
"We were the only team that had more than one guy," Austin said proudly. It's somewhat surprising that a defensive player, Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, was at the top of the list. But the flowing locks and a fanatical fan base don't hurt -- not to mention Ben Roethlisberger's off-the-field issues eliminate the QB from contention on this list.
Austin knows where fans usually look for jersey purchases: to quarterbacks. "They got [Tom] Brady up there, obviously," Austin said, also mentioning Peyton Manning and noting Green Bay's strong support for Aaron Rodgers. He jokingly pointed out that another rival was prominently featured in ads for NFL jerseys.: "[Drew] Brees ... he's got that commercial. I think that might be helping him out. And [Tim] Tebow, you know he's gonna be in that.
"Hey, I can't believe I'm on that list."
Austin kept pushing the angle of multiple Cowboys on the list, but he refused to gloat over the placement above his teammates, much to Page 2's dismay.
"One's married, the other one's engaged," Austin said of Witten and Romo, who recently got engaged to television reporter Candice Crawford. "I'm the only one that's single, so I think it's only right that I should ahead of those guys."
And the single life is probably working out OK for Austin, who was recently linked to Kim Kardashian.
"I'm hangin' in there," he said with a smile.
