Tiger Woods might not have won the Masters. He might not be his old fan-favorite self. But Woods still gets a lot of love from the athlete community, as seen on Twitter during Sunday's tournament. All day Tiger, who made an early charge before finishing tied for fourth (four behind winner Charl Schwartzel), was quite the topic for stars and subs -- past and present -- from all over the sports map.
Arizona Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald (@LarryFitzgerald) jumped in early: "Tiger is back in the hunt!!!!! Yessssss"
Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings (@BL00dline3) went a little farther, saying "Tiger Woods is about to win this" close to two hours before the golfer finished at -10.
Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews also predicted a Tiger victory -- although Matthews didn't quite get correct the color of the Masters champion's apparel (or perhaps he purposefully made a Happy Gilmore reference).
@ClayMatthews52: Tiger, the gold jacket's yours McIlroy's gonna choke!!
Well, he was right about one thing (54-hole hole leader Rory McIlroy shot 80 and finished tied for 15th).
Other athletes rooted on the 14-time Major winner to get No. 15, such as retired NFL star Michael Strahan (with a subsequent retweet by Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh), Jets wideout Braylon Edwards, and Ravens tackle/The Blind Side inspiration Michael Oher; some used it as a way to quiet critics (such as Bills teammates Drayton Florence and Shawne Merriman); and some got pretty invested in every moment; Portland Trail Blazers big man LaMarcus Aldridge kept tabs in the early going, but sent out an alert during the back nine: "I had to leave the house I need you'll to give me updates on what Tiger Woods is doing !?"
Texans running back Arian Foster (@ArianFoster): "I feel as if missed that eagle put with Tiger. What a Masters tourney this is!"
Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi (@MoMass_11): "Is it just me or can you feel Tiger's emotion with him on every shot"
Even when it became apparent Woods wouldn't win, some of his athlete fans took it well.
From Browns quarterback Colt McCoy (@ColtMcCoy): "Great masters! Fun to watch. Tiger looks like he's almost back. Felt terrible for rory. #Masters."
And teammate/punter Reggie Hodges (@Reggie_Hodges): "I don't know if Tiger is back, but it was fun watching him play well this weekend."
