Tradition is big in Beantown. Call this a case of really old school meets new school.
Boston Latin School was founded in 1635 as the first public school in America.
Latin began its intra-Boston Thanksgiving Day high school football rivalry with The English High School (America's first public high school) in 1882 when we only had 38 states. Latin and English meet Thursday for the 125th time. That game, kickoff 10 a.m. at Harvard Stadium, is billed as the "oldest continuous high school game in the nation."
The Wolfpack may have started another tradition on You Tube this season. After a 3-0 start, students and faculty displayed their spirit in a video remix of "Black and Yellow" by rapper Wiz Khalifa titled "Black and Purple" based on the team's colors.
"There's a lot of pride in what kids do extracurricular-wise," athletic director John McDonough told boston.com, which featured the video in a blog post this week. "Everyone is not in athletics or the arts, but they do so many different things."
The Wolfpack are 4-5 but the video had more than 2,300 page views as of Friday.
According to boston.com, junior Stanley "Stizz" Debrosse (Stan D. on Facebook) wrote the lyrics to "Black and Purple (Wolfpack remix)" and the video was filmed and edited by Mike DeMarias.
