For the city of Orlando and the fans of the Orlando Magic, this week is the best of times and the worst of times.
It's the best because all of the NBA's power brokers, on and off the court, will be in town for the All-Star weekend. The city and the team can show off their relatively new $480 million (in "2012 dollars") Amway Center and pretend that Magic fans can actually afford buying a ticket to the All-Star game.
It's the worst of times because all those power brokers will be whispering in the ears of Dwight Howard that he'd be a fool to stay here when the lights of Hollywood or Broadway or "Any-Place-Where-You-Can-Be-A-True-Superstar" beckon.
And that's the subject of this week's reader-generated list: "Top 10 Things NBA Stars Are Whispering To Dwight Howard." As always we are looking for humor, snarky humor at that. Send your ideas to firstname.lastname@example.org including your first name, initial of last name and location.
Howard has one season after this on his current contract but also has the contractual right to leave Orlando as a free agent at the end of this season. The Magic can trade him soon to get something for him but really, really don't want to do that.
What does Howard want? Back in June of 2009, Howard told the Orlando Sentinel, "I'll be here as long as the fans want me to be here.
As a franchise, we all have to take on a championship mentality.
We have to bring that mentality to our city."
That mentality is coming to Orlando this week -- but it will be leaving after the weekend and wants to take Howard with it.
So what whispers will Howard hear? That's what we want you to tell us. Your deadline is noon Wednesday and the list will be here Thursday.
