A surprise snowfall just before the break of dawn almost ruined pond hockey's best-laid plans. With the accumulation of snow on opening day, the rinks were unplayable. Luckily, about 200 dedicated volunteers were able to clear the six inches of snow from each of the 25 rinks with the help of a Bobcat. The games went on without a hitch.
