Feller, right, was a stellar righty for the Cleveland Indians but stepped aside to enlist in the U.S. Navy after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. He eventually served as a gun captain aboard the USS Alabama, earning five campaign ribbons and eight battle stars before returning to the game and his Hall of Fame career. Cochrane, meanwhile, suffered a devastating injury while playing baseball but, like Feller, went on to serve in the Navy.
