Before blazing trails in Major League Baseball, Robinson faced discrimination while with the Army during World War II. While in Fort Hood, Texas, in 1944, the second lieutenant was court-martialed after refusing to sit in the back of a bus. He was acquitted, and honorably discharged in 1944.
