Pitch Perfect

Photograph By Dan Winters for ESPN The Magazine

Since 2000, Nevada- based Sports Attack has manufactured the e-Hack Attack. Today the company makes the pitching machine of choice for every MLB team. But the original idea came from Lorenzo "Larry" J. Ponza Jr., a lifelong inventor who, in 1952, developed the "Power Pitcher" for his local Little League in Santa Cruz, Calif. The original prototype now sits in Cooperstown.
