"All boys suffer from inferiority complexes," said the sage Cus D'Amato, who saw self-doubt in the pupils of legends like Floyd Patterson and Mike Tyson. Barely men, both broke the mark for becoming the youngest heavyweight champion ever. The trainer's eponymous gym, shown here in 1981, is where Tyson developed into a champion. "Part of our job is to give them a reason to believe in themselves," D'Amato said. "One of the best ways is to teach them to fight, to take care of themselves."
