Tigers agree to $1.9 million deal with Phil Coke
DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers agreed Thursday to a non-guaranteed, $1.9 million, one-year contract with left-handed pitcher Phil Coke, a deal that avoided salary arbitration.
Coke was 0-5 with a 5.40 ERA in 49 games this year for the Tigers, who sent him to Triple-A Toledo in late August after one of his many poor outings. The Tigers brought him back up in September and put him on the roster in the AL championship series against Boston.
Coke, who earned $1.85 million this year, is 17-25 with a 4.20 ERA over four seasons in Detroit and two with the New York Yankees.
He would get $50,000 bonuses for 60, 65 and 70 games.
