San Jose Sharks star center Logan Couture will undergo surgery Wednesday for a lingering upper-body injury, the team confirmed Tuesday.

A source told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun that the surgery will be for an injured hand, and he's expected to be out three to four weeks.
"For the past several weeks, Logan has been dealing and playing with an upper body injury," general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement released by the team. "Despite his efforts to play through it, the injury has not responded as we had hoped and Logan has made the decision to undergo a surgical procedure to repair the problem."
Couture had been a strong possibility to be named to Canada's Olympic team Tuesday in Toronto but did not make the cut. It's not clear how this injury might have affected that decision. Olympic teams can choose to name injured players and replace them later.
Couture, 24, has 14 goals and 21 assists in 43 games this season.
