Kevin Ware will take a medical redshirt and miss the remainder of the season, Louisville coach Rick Pitino and the junior guard said before Thursday night's game against Memphis.
On Thursday, Ware underwent an MRI on his injured right leg, which he hurt after being kicked in early December against Missouri State. It's the same leg he broke in March when he landed awkwardly while playing against Duke in the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament.
Ware had surgery on the leg after the gruesome break, missed much of the preseason and returned Nov. 15 against Cornell.
He played in only nine games before suffering another injury. The Cardinals entered Thursday night 13-2 and have 31 games total on their schedule.
NCAA rules state a player qualifies for a medical redshirt if he plays in fewer than 30 percent of his team's games.
