Thailand Open postponed

The Thailand Open, slated for March 13-16, has been postponed after the government declared a 60-day state of emergency, according to the OneAsia Tour, which co-sanctions the event with the Japan Golf Tour.

Weeks of protests have brought the capital city of Bangkok to a standstill and were the main cause of the decision to delay the event.

"There are just six weeks to go before the tournament, so it would be unwise to proceed with the current date," Rungsrid Luxsitanonda, President of the Thailand Golf Association, said in a news release.

Tournament organizers plan to move the event at the Thana City Golf & Sports Club to later in the year. It was originally scheduled to be the season-opening event on both tours.
