Tulsa senior guard Pat Swilling Jr. has been accused of raping a fellow student, according to details from a protection order granted this week. Police said Friday they are investigating.

Last week, the university said Swilling was suspended from the team, but did not say why, pending a university disciplinary review. A protection order filed Tuesday in Tulsa County Court accuses Swilling of raping a woman at his apartment on the evening of Jan. 27.

A Tulsa police spokeswoman said Friday that the department is investigating allegations against Swilling but offered no further details. An athletic department spokesman said in an email Friday that the university responded to the matter immediately after it was reported on Feb. 11 to university security and local law enforcement officials, and that a disciplinary investigation is underway.

In the request for the protection order, the woman wrote: "I told him 'no' multiple times and told him to stop. He told me to shut up multiple times ... he told me no one would ever know I was there and no one would find out about what he did."

Swilling's father, Patrick Swilling Sr., was the NFL's defensive player of the year in 1991 while playing for the Saints. He went on to play for the Lions and Raiders before retiring and serving one term in the Louisiana House of Representatives. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame for a notable career at Georgia Tech.

ESPN left messages with two possible phone numbers for the Swilling family, and there has not yet been any response.

Swilling started his college career at Saint Joseph's in 2010 but left after he was dismissed for "a violation of the university's student code of conduct," allegedly for being in possession of a stolen laptop. He finished his freshman season at Louisiana Tech. He also played one year at the College of Southern Idaho before transferring to Tulsa.

The Golden Hurricane are 14-12 overall and 9-3 in Conference USA. Swilling averages 8.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists and has been one of their most consistent players.

Swilling is scheduled for a March 4 hearing on the protection order.
