Just two years after taking South Florida to the NCAA tournament and getting a six-year contract, Stan Heath has been fired, the 49-year-old coach confirmed to ESPN.com on Friday.
Heath's team was knocked out of the inaugural American Athletic Conference tournament by Rutgers on Wednesday.
South Florida finished 12-19 and 3-15 in league play in each of the past two seasons.
Heath said he will be paid $1.5 million for the final four years of his contract.
Heath came to South Florida after being let go at Arkansas, where he spent five seasons as coach and led the Razorbacks to two NCAA tournament berths. He also coached Kent State for one season and led the Golden Flashes to an Elite Eight appearance.
