KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals have activated reliever Louis Coleman from the disabled list and recalled second baseman Johnny Giavotella from Triple-A Omaha.
Kansas City made space for them by optioning relievers Donnie Joseph and Aaron Brooks to Omaha before Wednesday's series finale against the Rays.
Coleman has been on the DL with a jammed middle finger on his pitching hand. The right-hander threw a side session at Kauffman Stadium on Monday and reported no problems.
Giavotella was summoned from Omaha to fill in for Omar Infante, who is sidelined after getting hit in the jaw with a pitch. Giavotella was 7 for 19 in his first five games of the season.
Royals manager Ned Yost said he hopes Infante can play this weekend.
