Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was activated in time for Friday night's game against the Seattle Mariners.
Meanwhile, infielder Kevin Kouzmanoff, who started at third base in Beltre's absence, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a herniated disk in his lower back. Kouzmanoff returned to Dallas on Thursday to be checked by back specialist Dr. Drew Dossett, and the decision was made to put him on the DL.
Beltre injured his left quad April 8 in Boston, and an MRI showed a mild strain. The club decided to be sure Beltre was fully healthy and put him on the DL retroactively April 13. He is hitting .286 with three doubles, no homers and four RBIs in eight games.
Kouzmanoff was solid in Beltre's place, hitting .362 (17-for-42) with two homers, six doubles and 10 RBIs in 13 games after starting the season at Triple-A Round Rock. He was the American League player of the week last week.
Kouzmanoff left Tuesday's game in Oakland with lower back tightness.
