Players react to Donald Sterling audio

ESPN.com

An audio recording purportedly of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling making racist remarks to his girlfriend is being investigated by the National Basketball Association, and the league's players past and present took to Twitter to react to Sterling's comments. Magic Johnson, who was in the since-deleted Instagram photo that led to the audio recording, said he'd no longer attend Clippers games.

TMZ reported this morning that Clippers owner Donald Sterling doesn't want me or other African-Americans to come to Clippers games.

.@cjbycookie and I will never go to a Clippers game again as long as Donald Sterling is the owner.

- Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) April 26, 2014

I feel sorry for my friends Coach Doc Rivers and Chris Paul that they have to work for a man that feels that way about African Americans.

- Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) April 26, 2014

LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling's comments about African Americans are a black eye for the NBA.

Jeremiah Rivers, the son of Clippers coach Doc Rivers, shared his extensive thoughts on the situation in multiple tweets.

People want to #BoycottClippers because of one man? My house has been burned to the ground, animals tortured and burned as well.

- Jeremiah Rivers (@JRivers25) April 26, 2014

Along with anything we ever loved, and held treasured, because of the color of my dads skin. We lost everything and had to start over.

- Jeremiah Rivers (@JRivers25) April 26, 2014

Did we hate the collective of people, culture, and race who's skin was responsible for our hardship? No.

- Jeremiah Rivers (@JRivers25) April 26, 2014

One man, cannot have the power to make me feel hate towards a group, race, or another persons skin color.

- Jeremiah Rivers (@JRivers25) April 26, 2014

Nor would I allow them to have the power over me to not support the players and coaches that have done nothing wrong.

- Jeremiah Rivers (@JRivers25) April 26, 2014

Hate the man all you want, show him no mercy if you must. But the players who put on that Jersey do it because the love basketball.

- Jeremiah Rivers (@JRivers25) April 26, 2014

They want to win for the city of LA, for there families, friends, fans and themselves.

- Jeremiah Rivers (@JRivers25) April 26, 2014

Racism isn't born, it's taught. It is the refuge of ignorance and seeks to divide and destroy.

- Jeremiah Rivers (@JRivers25) April 26, 2014

The clippers need the people, fans, and city of LA more then ever. The team deserves it.

- Jeremiah Rivers (@JRivers25) April 26, 2014

Throughout the day, multiple players added their thoughts on Sterling's comments and a potential Clippers boycott.

I couldn't play for him

- Kobe Bryant (@kobebryant) April 26, 2014

All this sterling outrage speaks to how naive and gullible folks have become about race

- David West (@D_West30) April 26, 2014

Folks buying into this post-racial society mythology

- David West (@D_West30) April 26, 2014

Sterling basically articulated Plantation Politics...Make money off the Bucks/Lay with the Women/No Association in Public good or bad

— David West (@D_West30) April 26, 2014

I don't blame you Magic

- Anthony Morrow (@MrAnthonyMorrow) April 26, 2014

He's had multiple complaints against him over the last 20 years, but it took this To happen for them to "influence" him to sell the team

- Anthony Morrow (@MrAnthonyMorrow) April 26, 2014

Just posted a photo http://t.co/d6XGUkLa0M

- DeAndre Jordan (@deandrejordan) April 26, 2014

That's the way it is...He is honest about what he believes in..Been going on for a long time, Hats off 2 the Team.. 4 playin above it all.

- Baron Davis (@Baron_Davis) April 26, 2014

Are the Clippers suppose to play their next game?

- Jerryd Bayless (@jerrydbayless) April 26, 2014

It's an interesting dilemma to say the least.

- Jerryd Bayless (@jerrydbayless) April 26, 2014

I don't think it would be right to penalize the fans and not play knowing they had nothing to do with it.

- Jerryd Bayless (@jerrydbayless) April 26, 2014

Racism is a mental health disease. Seek help.

- Metta World Peace (@MettaWorldPeace) April 26, 2014

@LAClippers players , good luck on your next game. You guys worked your entire life for this moment.I predict Mavs but hope Clips win it all

- Metta World Peace (@MettaWorldPeace) April 26, 2014

#DontPlay

- Kendall Marshall (@KButter5) April 26, 2014

I know coaches & players play for each other & especially THE FANS, but it would be hard for me to play another game for Sterling. #NBA

- James Worthy (@James_Worthy42) April 26, 2014

Just watched the Commissioner speak about the Sterling Tapes. I have no doubt the @NBA will move swiftly & definitively.

— Dominique Wilkins (@DWilkins21) April 27, 2014

However, there IS a history w/ Sterling that is well documented. If the tapes r authenticated there is 0 room in the NBA at ANY level.
