EARTH CITY, Mo. -- To the surprise of no one, the St. Louis Rams have exercised the 2015 option on defensive end Robert Quinn.
The Rams had until May 3 to pick up the fifth-year option and had maintained all along that the move was inevitable. They confirmed the move Monday.
Picking up the option means the Rams will pay Quinn $6.969 million in 2015 and keeps him under team control for the next two seasons at a reasonable price. He's the 12th player from the 2011 draft class to have his option picked up.
Quinn finished second in the NFL in sacks last season with 19 and also forced seven fumbles. He won the Pro Football Writers of America's Defensive Player of the Year award for his efforts and was a first-team All Pro for the first time in his three-year career.
