MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez has dropped his appeal of a three-game suspension he received for his part in a fight with the Pittsburgh Pirates during a game Easter Sunday.
Gomez began serving his suspension Wednesday night and is eligible to return against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.
The Pirates currently are in Milwaukee for a three-game series. The Brewers won the first game 5-2 but lost 4-1 on Wednesday night.
Pirates starter Gerrit Cole and Gomez exchanged words before the benches and bullpen cleared April 20 in Pittsburgh. Gomez threw a punch during the fracas.
On Tuesday night, Gomez went 0-for-1 with a strikeout and scored a run after being hit by a pitch from Cole in Milwaukee's win.
Gomez later exited the game with back spasms.
Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado already has served his five-game suspension.
