Commanding Curve breezes
West Point Thoroughbreds' Commanding Curve, second in the Kentucky Derby last out, breezed five furlongs at Churchill Downs May 23 as he continues to prepare for the June 7 Belmont Stakes.
The Master Command ridgling trained by Dallas Stewart posted the co-third-highest time of :59 ⅘ seconds among 25 horses working the distance over a fast track.
Purchased by West Point for $75,000 from the Eddie Woods consignment to the 2013 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training, Commanding Curve has a maiden win and four placings in seven starts, with earnings of $542,434.
After his stunning late-running Derby second, Commanding Curve was held out of the Preakness Stakes and will be among the fresh shooters taking aim at California Chrome's attempt to become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.
