LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Matt Anderson had 34 points, and the U.S. men's national volleyball team improved to 3-0 in World League play with a 3-2 victory over Russia on Friday night.
Outside hitter Tyler Sander added 22 points in the 25-17, 27-25, 20-25, 27-25, 15-12 victory at the Walter Pyramid on the Long Beach State campus.
Denis Biriukov had 22 points for Russia, which remains winless in the annual international tournament.
The United States was without three-time Olympian Reid Priddy, who injured his knee in a World League victory over Bulgaria on May 24. He required surgery that will keep him out for the rest of the season.
Second-ranked Russia and the fourth-ranked U.S. men play again Saturday night. The top finishers in pool play advance to the final round July 16-20 in Florence, Italy.
