OAKLAND -- Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was a late scratch from Saturday night's game against the Athletics with tightness in his left rib cage, an injury that apparently cropped up after batting practice.
No further details were immediately available on the injury or its prognosis. The announcement was made approximately 20 minutes before the start of the game. Teixeira was replaced at first base by catcher Brian McCann; John Ryan Murphy was inserted into the lineup as the catcher.
Teixeira, who missed all but 15 games last season due to a torn wrist tendon sheath that required surgery, spent 15 days on the disabled list in April with a hamstring injury. He leads the Yankees in home runs with 11 and RBI, with 31.
