COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Luke Kennard scored 30 points to help the United States rout Uruguay 156-58 on Friday night in the Americans' first game in the FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship.

Kennard, from Franklin, Ohio, was 7-of-12 from 3-point range to tie the U.S. U-18 record for attempts.

"My teammates really helped me today by finding me in good spots," Kennard said. "I was kind of feeling it, but really without my teammates, I wouldn't have been able to score like that."

Jalen Brunson of Lincolnshire, Illinois, set the U.S. record for assists in the event with 13, and the team broke marks for points, margin of victory (98 points), field goals (59) and assists (40).

"I think the one thing we've been talking about is trying to play unselfishly, and they did that tonight," said U.S. coach Billy Donovan, also the Florida Gators coach. "Forty assists. They were really unselfish. They played well together. ... Their willingness to pass and share the basketball was special tonight."
