Albert Pujols to play after rainout

ESPN.com news services

Albert Pujols will start at first base and bat third for the Los Angeles Angels against the Chicago White Sox after injuring his groin while running the bases.

The move was announced prior to Monday's game being rained out. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Pujols was hurt Sunday in a loss to Kansas City. Trying for a double in the sixth inning, he pulled up as he neared second base and was tagged out. He revealed after the game that he first felt the injury on Wednesday.

The Angels' medical staff diagnosed the ailment as a swollen lymph node.

"He feels good," Scioscia said Sunday. "It's not really anything that's muscular or anything we're worried about being a pull. It's really just something ... the way it was described our medical staff, it's more of a lymph node or just a little infection that got a little irritated.

"It shouldn't be anything that's gonna impact what he needs to do."

Pujols played a career-low 99 games last season due to injury. He has played all but two games for the Angels this season.
