FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - New York Jets rookie wide receiver Quincy Enunwa was arrested early Sunday evening and charged with simple assault, following an altercation with an individual at a hotel near the Jets' practice facility.

TMZ.com and the New York Daily News are reporting that this was a domestic dispute involving a woman, but the Florham Park Police Department has not confirmed that.

"I wish I could answer your questions, but it's a pending legal matter," Enunwa said Wednesday.

"I'm aware of the situation, but it's a pending legal matter, so I'm not gonna comment on it," coach Rex Ryan said.

The NFL announced a new policy on domestic violence last week, instituting a six-game suspension for a first offense, and a lifetime ban for a second offense.

Enunwa was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, according to a press release issued by the Florham Park P.D, but no further details have been made public.

A sixth-round draft pick by the Jets this past spring out of Nebraska, Enunwa survived the team's initial 53-man roster cutdown Saturday, but was waived Monday when the Jets signed cornerback Phillip Adams. The Jets then added Enunwa to their practice squad, and he has practiced with the team the past two days.

"I spoke to people in the building, the decisions made were made, and there's a pending legal matter, and nobody's holding it against me until we find out everything that's going on," Enunwa said, declining to elaborate further.

A team captain his senior year at Nebraska, Enunwa set a school record with 12 touchdown catches in 2013 and was named MVP of the Gator Bowl.
