MotoGP to debut in China in 2004
BEIJING -- China plans to build a new track in the shadow of the Great Wall of China, organizers of the MotoGP World Championship announced.
The new circuit would be used for for the country's debut MotoGP Grand Prix in 2004, they said.
It will also stage other sporting events and will receive live broadcasts of the opening and closing ceremonies at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Dorna Sports, the managing company of the MotoGP World Championship, signed an agreement with the China Panthere Corporation and the China Grand Prix Bureau on Wednesday to stage a motorcycling grand prix at the new circuit from 2004 until 2010, MotoGP said.
The new track in Yanqing, about 40 kilometres from Beijing, will be called the Great Wall Circuit.
