2002 recap
The good: Sophomore season in CART was quite a nice turnaround from 2001 as the ex-Formula One driver placed fourth at Chicago and finished sixth three times -- Long Beach, England and Mexico City. Also qualified a career-best third at Miami.

  • Season highlight: Qualified fourth on Rockingham's tricky oval and ran with the leaders all day before finishing sixth.

The bad: Only finished nine of 18 races.

  • Season lowlight: Suffered broken pelvis in first-lap melee in Australia.

Key stat: Never finished out of top 10 when he finished.

    2003 outlook
The 28-year-old road racer is leaving CART for the IRL because Toyota needs a Japanese driver and Takagi has shown speed on the ovals. He'll be teammates with Felipe Giaffone for Morris Nunn.
