Grant to assist San Diego State coach Fisher

Associated Press

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State hired former Michigan All-American and NBA veteran Gary Grant as an assistant to basketball coach Steve Fisher.

Grant played at Michigan from 1984-88 while Fisher was an assistant coach there. He led the Wolverines to a 100-29 record, four NCAA tournament appearances and four 20-win seasons.

Grant was a first-round draft pick of the Seattle SuperSonics in 1988, but his rights were traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. He played with the Clippers for seven seasons and also played for New York, Miami and Portland.

Grant was an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers last season.
