Starting Washington TB, receiver and guard out for Oregon game

SEATTLE -- Washington won't have starting tailback Rich Alexis, receiver Charles Frederick and guard Tusi Sa'au when Oregon visits Saturday.

Coach Keith Gilbertson said Alexis reinjured a bruised thigh this week in practice. Alexis, who missed last weekend's 43-23 loss to USC, is Washington's leading rusher with 566 yards and four touchdowns in seven games.

Frederick, who ranks second on the team with 39 receptions, sustained a bruised chest and sprained left shoulder in the first quarter against the Trojans and didn't return.

"It's not good," Gilbertson said. "I don't think you'll see him unless he rapidly recovers."

Sa'au has been slowed by back pain, and Gilbertson said his season could be over.

Kenny James, a redshirt freshman, will start at tailback while freshman Sonny Shackelford will start for Frederick and redshirt freshman Clay Walker will start at guard.

Starting cornerback Roc Alexander (shoulder) and reserve Chris Massey (hernia) didn't play last weekend and are expected to miss the Oregon game. Sam Cunningham, a junior, will start for Alexander.
