Houston signs reliever Miceli

Associated Press

HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros agreed to terms with journeyman right-handed reliever Dan Miceli on a one-year deal Tuesday, making him the first of 210 free agents to sign.

Miceli, 33, will make $600,000 this season, up from $350,000 last year.

The Astros acquired Miceli from the New York Yankees on July 29. It was his fourth stop of the 2003 season, and he went 1-1 with a 2.10 ERA in 30 innings for Houston.

Overall, Miceli was 2-4 with a 3.20 ERA last year with Colorado, Cleveland, New York and Houston. He became the first person to pitch for teams in four divisions in a single season.

Miceli has pitched for nine teams over 11 seasons, compiling a 35-42 record and a 4.59 ERA.
