Fox to undergo knee surgery Tuesday

ESPN.com news services

TUCSON, Ariz.-- Arizona forward Isaiah Fox will undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair his injured left knee, the school announced on Monday.

Fox, one of three juniors on the team, was injured in the first half of the Wildcats' 78-77 loss to Florida on Friday. The loss dropped Arizona from fourth to seventh (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today; No. 7 AP) in the national rankings.

Coach Lute Olson had said Fox was greatly improved over last season and figured to have significant playing time in a reserve role. He had 15 points and 11 rebounds -- his first career double-double -- in the team's season-opening victory over Northern Arizona.

An MRI on Monday revealed a meniscal tear. The surgery will be performed on Tuesday.

ESPN.com's Andy Katz reports that Fox is likely to miss three to six weeks after surgery.

Depth along the front line already had been a concern for Olson.

Arizona's next game is at Saint Louis on Saturday.
