Arbitration for reliever avoided
BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox and right-handed reliever Scott
Williamson agreed to terms on a one-year contract Saturday,
The Red Sox acquired Williamson from Cincinnati in July. He went

He played a key role in the playoffs, going 2-0 with three saves

Williamson, who earned $1.6 million last season, is 25-23 with
54 saves and a 3.13 ERA in 241 career appearances.
He was 5-4 with 21 saves and a 4.16 ERA in a career-high 66
relief appearances combined for the Reds and Red Sox in 2003.
