INDIANAPOLIS -- Brazilian Felipe Giaffone crashed in practice Tuesday for the Indianapolis 500, but was not injured.

Giaffone lost control of his car coming out of the third turn, hit the outside wall in the short chute and skidded against the wall in turn four before stopping in the front straightaway.

The 29-year-old Giaffone was hired by Dreyer & Reinbold Racing to drive the No. 24 car after Robbie Buhl retired following the IRL race last month in Japan.

Giaffone was the IRL's rookie of the year in 2001 and won at Kentucky in 2002.

Also on Tuesday, rookie Marty Roth's car spun 1 times coming out of the second turn and stopped on the inside of the track, but he did not hit the wall. It was Roth's second spinout in two days.
